NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A former Tennessee police sergeant was arrested for mistreating an arrestee after an investigation led by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The bureau began looking into Robert Pipkins on Nov. 14, 2014.
Agents gathered information that on Nov. 13, while working for the Selmer Police Department, Pipkins arrested a man on a traffic-related charge.
The investigation further revealed the sergeant physically assaulted and injured the arrestee during the booking process, the TBI reported.
The alleged assault happened while the arrestee was handcuffed and being booked into the McNairy County jail, east of Memphis and south of Jackson.
The 50-year-old former sergeant was charged with one count of official oppression and one count of simple assault.
He was booked into the McNairy County jail on $5,000.
