COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man fatally shot himself and injured two others in a shooting along Interstate 24 in Coffee County early Monday morning.
Investigators told News 2 the incident happened on I-24 West at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
According to the sheriff’s department, Nashville resident Jose Louise Garcia held six occupants of a Chevy Avalanche hostage for about six hours.
Dispatch received a 911 call from an open line and determined there may be some type of a domestic situation going on inside the truck and someone may have a gun.
A deputy responded and approached the truck, briefly talking with one person as the suspect pulled a gun out from between his legs.
That’s when the deputy started to back away and the male shot himself in the head. The bullet continued travelling, injuring two females inside the car.
One woman was grazed by the bullet and transported to a Murfreesboro hospital for treatment. The second woman was transported to a Chattanooga hospital to have the bullet removed.
Detectives interviewed the other four passengers to gather more information.
Garcia was on parole for aggravated robbery and had an active warrant for parole violation.
