LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A 6-year-old girl rescued a small kitten from a Pennsylvania storm drain when the job proved to be too big for firefighters.

Janeysha Cruz and her friends saw the trapped kitten at the Lancaster Arms Apartments Tuesday evening, but after firefighters removed the drain cover they realized an adult would not be able to reach the kitten.

Janeysha, with her mother’s permission, volunteered to go in. The Lancaster Township Fire Department lowered her into the hole and she was able to coax the kitten, which was nearly three feet down in the hole, into her arms.

The kitten was taken to a non-profit shelter for evaluation and care until she is adopted.
