NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was arrested for allegedly being involved in a hit and run accident while driving drunk then returning home to wave a machete in the air Wednesday evening.
Police responded to a call Richard Leaver, 54, was allegedly causing a disturbance outside his home near Lipscomb University around 6:45 p.m.
Police reportedly found Leaver on his property, smelling of alcohol and unsteady on his feet.
According to an affidavit, police noticed Leaver’s truck was heavily damaged and matched the description of a truck that had been involved in a hit and run accident earlier near the 100 Oaks area.
Police reportedly escorted Leaver to the scene of the accident where the hit and run victim positively identified him as the driver who struck her vehicle and trailer she was towing.
When officers attempted to administer field sobriety tests on Leaver, he allegedly responded with expletives.
Officers obtained a search warrant for Leaver’s blood and he was taken to General Hospital for it to be drawn.
Leaver was booked into the Metro jail and charged with public intoxication, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a revoked license. His bond was set at $31,500.
