Metro officer reinstated after threatening to shoot suspect in face

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Metro police officer accused of threatening to shoot a suspect in the face last week was reinstated.

Officer Brian Birch was decommissioned last Monday after he was caught on film during an Antioch traffic stop using what Metro police called “inappropriate language.”

After reports of a man carrying guns in the area of Bell Road and Interstate 24, Birch was one of the officers who responded to the scene.

He was caught on film pulling over the suspect, Walter Fisher, and saying things such as, “I’m gonna shoot you in the f***ing face!”

Fisher was never charged. Police learned he was inside a nearby restaurant when he saw people burglarizing his car and confronted them with gun in hand.

Officer Birch was assigned to desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation but got his gun and badge back Monday.

Spokesman Don Aaron with the Metro Nashville Police Department said Birch is working in the warrants division and won’t be back on the street until his disciplinary review is completed.
