WICHITA, Kan. (WKRN) – A Derby dog owner is calling it a miracle after she was reunited with her 4-year-old dog, Lucy, who had been missing for nearly two weeks.
Rebecca Felix says she was out of town in Dallas, visiting her granddaughter in the hospital when she got a phone call from her husband, Michael, three weeks ago.
“My husband called me that night while I was at the hospital with the granddaughter and said that Lucy was missing, and I said what do you mean she’s missing, he said I can’t find her,” said Felix.
Felix says she couldn’t contain her emotions.
“I cried all night because I didn’t know what could have happened to her,” said Felix.
She says she came home the following Tuesday and immediately began an all out search for her beloved Lucy.
“I spent hours making posters, posting on websites and just getting in my car driving around neighborhoods calling her,” said Felix.
After two weeks and no sight of Lucy, Felix thought she might have been gone for good.
However, last Thursday night, her husband Michael was outside, walking near an area they had already searched when he heard a noise.
“He walked by the concrete pad, and called her and she barked,” said Felix.
Felix says Lucy dug her way down the foundation of the house, tunneled back about five feet and got caught underneath a concrete slab.
Felix called the police and fire department, who were able to dig and remove Lucy out from the concrete slab.
Felix believes her faith brought Lucy back to her.
“She shouldn’t have been able to sustain life for 13 days with no water, no food and stuck underground, I know it’s just a gift that God gave her back to me, it’s a miracle,” said Felix.
Lucy did suffer a few bumps and bruises, as well as a spot on her body where the skin was beginning to die.
Felix says Lucy will have surgery Friday morning to remove the spot.
