NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – About 20 to 25 supporters of Governor Bill Haslam’s proposed healthcare plan for nearly 300,000 Tennesseans filled the front office of House Speaker Beth Harwell late Tuesday morning before about seven of them blocked the front door to her office.
Supporters are urging her to bring the measure that failed earlier this year in a special session to the House floor for a full debate.
Harwell spoke briefly to the group, but did not indicate that such a move would be possible so late in the session.
At least a half a dozen Tennessee state troopers are also outside the office keeping an eye on the supporters turned protestors.
There has been no indication that small group might be removed because some staffers have grumbled about stepping over the protestors.
The group spent time praying, singing and reciting reasons why they were there before leaving around 2:30 p.m.
