CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Two Rivers Fire Department in Cheatham County closed its doors Monday night after a 5-0 vote to disband the station.
The department has been facing a shortage of volunteers, partially due to state-required training two to three times a month, a commitment some volunteers can’t make.
They will not long respond to emergencies or take fire calls.
The department still has to deal with paperwork and figure out what to do with equipment, the deadline for which is June 30.
Residents in the surrounding area will not be left without fire coverage.
The surrounding departments, including Ashland City, Pegram, and Kingston Springs, already respond to fires when there aren’t enough volunteers, and will continue to do so.
