NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A national environmental group has named the Harpeth and Holston rivers to a national list of endangered rivers.

The list by Washington D.C.-based American Rivers “highlights ten rivers whose fate will be decided in the coming year,” according to the nonprofit’s website.

The group says the Holston is threatened by pollution from a U.S. Army ammunition plant in Kingsport.

BAE Systems, which operates the facility under contract, said in a statement that it is working with the Army and all regulatory agencies “to comply with all environmental regulations and permits.”

The report says the Harpeth is threatened by sewage from Franklin’s treatment plant and excessive drinking water withdrawals.
