KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – A woman who was born in Knoxville needs your help to track down her biological parents. Janelle Kreykes was adopted as a baby and has now turned to Facebook to find her family.
The 22-year-old woman has never met her birth parents.
“I have been thinking about it on and off for as long as I can remember,” she said during an interview over Skype.
Kreykes says now is the time. Kreykes moved from Knoxville to Washington, DC seven years ago. Kreykes says she has the support of her adoptive parents by her side and just wants to say thank you to her biological mother for giving her up for adoption.
“I’m in a really great place right now and I want to thank her for that, because [adoption,] that’s a courageous and amazing thing to do,” said Kreykes.
Kreykes turned to Facebook over the weekend because she had heard other stories of adopted children finding their parents through social media.
“Immediately it went from 100 likes, to 300, to 1,000. The shares just kept going up and I just let it go. I turned my phone off. Said this is crazy. I don’t know what’s happening.”
Her Facebook post has been shared more than 20,000 times in just 24 hours. Kreykes appreciates the support.”
“Hopefully I’ll be able to find her pretty soon”
Once she finally meets her mother, Teresa Byrge, Kreykes says the moment will be memorable.
She is currently working two jobs and is in school studying food services management. Her adoptive parents John and Shelly have had her since she was two months.
If you can help in Kreykes’ search, you can contact her on Facebook.
