Motorcycle crash closes lanes of I-24 West in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Both the on-ramp and lanes of Interstate 24 West at Murfreesboro Pike were closed Saturday due to a multi-motorcycle crash.

The crash happened at the underpass of I-40 in the lane that merges onto I-24 around 6:40 p.m.

According to Metro police, witnesses reported three motorcycles were speeding on I-24 West when two of them appeared to lock handlebars and crash.

One rider slid from the bike through a grassy area and down a nearly 30 foot cliff to the road below. They were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Another victim was injured but fled from the scene. Crash investigators searched for the rider and suspect they were picked up by someone.

The roadway reopened around Midnight.
