BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (WKRN) – A 12-year-old Colorado girl was detained by authorities Friday after she allegedly tried to kill her mother two times by poisoning her drinks with bleach.
Police said she committed the alleged acts because her mother took her away her iPhone, according to ABC News.
The mother first felt sick on March 2 after drinking a smoothie. While she smelled bleach from her glass, she assumed her daughter hadn’t rinsed it properly, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
A few days later, the mother again recognized the smell of bleach coming from something she was going to drink.
ABC News states the mom confronter her daughter, who allegedly responded by saying she wanted to kill her for taking away her iPhone.
The sheriff’s office said the bleach was poured into her mother’s water carafe.
The woman contacted authorities March 6 from a local hospital. She is no longer hospitalized and in fine condition.
On Friday, authorities detained the 12-year-old on two counts of attempted first degree murder.
“She had pre-planned this a couple of different times,” Sgt. Bill Crist said.
The investigation is ongoing.
