NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A fire that damaged a home being renovated near Interstate 40 in west Nashville Saturday morning has been deemed arson by fire officials.
Firefighters were called to the home, located in the 500 block of Newton Avenue, around 4 a.m.
The one-story house was unoccupied and undergoing renovations. The home is now uninhabitable.
According to fire officials, the home did not have the electricity turned on, an indication the fire was intentionally set.
Officials said the fire began in a lumber pile that was already in the house as part of the renovations.
Fire officials said a car fire had occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Newton Court, just around the corner from the house fire.
According to the fire captain, the home owner said the car was parked on the street and had not been driven in a week.
The fire marshal is investigating if the two incidents are related.
No additional details were released.
