MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) – Mt. Juliet police spent more than five hours outside a home on Newberry Lane in the Chandler Pointe subdivision Friday after a man barricaded himself inside.

Police received a call around 10:15 a.m. that a 52-year-old man was trying to harm himself.

There was no one else in the home, but Mt. Juliet’s Crisis Negotiation and Special Response Team remained on the scene negotiating with him.

Eight neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

During the incident the man called a local news agency and their staff assisted authorities in the situation.

At 3:30 p.m., Mt. Juliet police tweeted that the scene was safe and the suspect was no longer barricaded.

Officials said the man, whose name was not released, will receive the care he needs.
