FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – A California woman is jailed following her arrest at a Franklin hotel for prostitution.
Sarah Sunshine was arrested at the La Quinta Inn Tuesday. She faces a number of charges including promoting prostitution, prostitution and drug possession, among others.
The 36-year-old woman is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Jason Herrington, also 36, was cited for prostitution, possession of drug paraphernalia, among others, in connection to the case.
Herrington was given a misdemeanor citation for his charges. He was not physically arrested. Franklin police told News 2 that is state law unless the defendant meets certain criteria.
Police said Sunshine’s arrest was part of a surveillance operation that stemmed from a provocative ad on backpage.com.
“Usually it’s the pictures accompanying ads for sensual massage that can signal prostitution,” an undercover flex officer said. “We see multiple ads from the same person on various sites.”
Franklin Police Department’s Flex Unit carried out the operation. The specialized division deals with quality of life and street crimes.
“The woman in this hotel room was set up for business,” Sgt. Charles Warner said. “She had a lot of cash, a money ledger, a laptop computer and two cell phones.”
He added, “This woman was engaged in a business. The business was sex.”
Franklin police told Nashville News 2 they are warning would-be prostitutes and their customers they are watching.
“We will continue to aggressively seek out and arrest criminals engaged in prostitution,” said Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner. “Our citizens do not want people coming here for that, and neither do we. Prostitutes and Johns: You have our attention.”
Police also seized $2,300 in cash from the hotel room.
Authorities added hotel management where unaware of the incident and fully cooperated with the investigation.
