COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WKRN) – A portion of Parsons Bend Road in Maury County is closed after a section of it partially collapsed over the weekend.
Someone noticed the hole, which is approximately 2 feet deep, and called the Maury County Sheriff’s Department Saturday afternoon to report it.
The Maury County Highway Department blocked off a half mile stretch of the rural road, which is near a gun club.
According to Chris Boshers, who works for the department, repairs will be made this week and the street will hopefully reopen sometime Thursday.
In addition to the hole, there is also uneven pavement and what appears to be erosion on the bank next to the road.
Parsons Bend Road is not far from Highway 7 in Santa Fe, which collapsed after the historic 2010 flood.
It is not known yet if this problem could be the result of that weather event.
The department believes the damage is more likely because of the recent snow and ice, but they will have a better idea once repair work begins.
