NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Two people were injured Monday night on Interstate 40 in Bellevue after a semi flipped over the guardrail and careened down an embankment.
The crash happened at 9:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes just past the Old Hickory Boulevard exit.
Metro police on the scene told News 2 the driver of the truck lost control, hit the median then went off the right side of the road and flipped over the guardrail.
It then careened down a steep embankment at least 30 feet below the interstate.
There were two people inside the truck at the time, the driver and a woman.
The woman may have been asleep in the cab when the accident happened and was thrown through the semi’s front windshield.
Both victims were transported to Saint Thomas West with unknown injuries.
A Metro Nashville firefighter was injured after falling while on the scene. He was also transported to Saint Thomas West with minor injuries.
The interstate reopened around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
