NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Powerball jackpot now stands at $500 million, which is the third largest jackpot in the game’s history.
On Wednesday, Middle Tennesseans lined up at the Thornton’s on Lebanon Pike to purchase tickets in advance of the game’s Wednesday night drawing.
The convenience store’s manager told News 2 he expected to sell thousands of tickets during the day at that location alone.
Odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 175 million. Participants must correctly match five numbers, plus a sixth “Powerball” number.
P.J. Richardson said Wednesday was her first time buying a lottery ticket, and she already knew what she would do with her winnings.
“I’m going to retire from driving a school bus for 29 years. I’m going to pay off all my bills. I’m going to give 10% to the church, and I’m going to go on vacation,” she said.
Tickets for Wednesday night’s drawing must be purchased before 8:59 p.m. CST.
The winning numbers will be shown on News 2 at 10 p.m.
