NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was shot in the head and killed early Monday morning just south of downtown Nashville.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. at the University Court housing complex on 1st Avenue South.
Police on scene told News 2 the victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Starks.
Prior to the shooting, police said Starks had been involved in an argument with his girlfriend in the presence of others before two men arrived in a vehicle.
Starks went to speak to the men before shots were fired.
After interviewing witnesses, police said they identified convicted felon Aweis Hajmohammed, who is known on the streets as Son Son, as the suspected killer.
Hajmohammed, 27, was last known to have lived on South Hampton Court. He was previously convicted of aggravated assault in 2009 for firing a gun into a car with three men inside. He was also convicted in a 2012 carjacking.
It’s still unclear what led to Monday morning’s shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
