Alert citizen helps find missing toddler in Montgomery County

Missing Person - Woman 2

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A four-year-old girl who was reported missing in Montgomery County was found quickly, thanks to an alert citizen.

Officials said the child disappeared while playing with puppies in the neighbor’s backyard Friday. When her father went to retrieve her for school, she and the dogs were gone.

He searched the area for a short time and then called 911.

Not long after the sheriff’s office arrived on the scene, a man flagged authorities down and said one of his workers, Joseph Rash, was helping search for the girl.

He ultimately found her in a nearby field on Mobley Road.

The child told authorities she was following the puppies into the woods to make sure they didn’t drown in the water nearby.

Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson said Rash played an important role in helping to find the little girl.

“I commend Mr. Rash for his immediate willingness to assist in searching for and ultimately finding this child. Time is of the essence when a child goes missing and his quick response could have very well prevented a tragedy. “
