SMITH COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 East in Smith County Friday.
It happened just before 6:30 p.m. near mile marker 259.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a vehicle traveling eastbound in the right lane drifted off shoulder and struck a tractor trailer that was parked on the side of the road.
The car then went into the left lane and was T-boned by a third vehicle.
A passenger in the car was killed. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. No details were immediately released on that person’s condition.
The eastbound lanes were closed but reopened by 9 p.m.
