ETHRIDGE, Tenn. (WKRN) – After a convicted sex offender was allowed to have breakfast at Ethridge Elementary School last Thursday, the District Attorney’s office in Lawrence County is now investigating.
Billy Gene Robertson was identified by the school system’s new Raptor system which does background checks on all those who enter the school.
Robertson was found to be a sex offender, but Director of Schools Dr. Bill Heath said the principal allowed him to stay and have breakfast under the watchful eye of an S.R.O.
Robertson reportedly told the school he was there to visit a grandchild.
DA Brent Cooper, however, told News 2 he has received multiple complaints alleging the child Robertson was visiting was a friend of the family, not his own relative.
According to the DA, his office is looking into whether there was possible deception on Robertson’s part.
There are only limited circumstances where a sex offender is allowed to be on a school’s campus, Cooper added.
