DICKSON, Tenn. (WKRN) – A convicted sex offender out of Illinois and now-owner of a Dickson restaurant has been arrested in Tennessee.
According to recently filed court documents, Carmen Leato, the owner of Michelle’s, a local Italian Restaurant, was arrested on two counts of a sex offender employing juveniles and one count of sex offender residential and work restrictions.
According to arrest affadavits, Leato was in Michelle’s Restaurant which is located near a public park and two daycares.
Documents state the arrest came after Leato was seen inside the restaurant on Jan. 21.
Arrest affidavits state just two days later on Jan. 23, a police officer sent two plain-clothes detectives inside to confirm he was in fact working there.
The affidavit also states Leato was issued a Tennessee driver’s license on Jan. 5 this year. Authorities stated he failed to disclose he was a registered sex offender, therefore it was not printed on his license.
Leato also listed his address as being in the 500 block of Spring Street in Charlotte, Tennessee, but he actually lived at a Super 8 motel on Suzanne Drive in Dickson.
In an email to the channel 2 newsroom Mr. Leato indicates he was convicted in 1992.
He also writes, “I also was not arrested for not registering. I believe the law is the same all 50 states they are accusations until found guilty. Try doing some real work and look into the detective in the case because my people are already looking at him.”
