NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The so-called “Deflategate” scandal is continuing to rock the sports world and now Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst is talking about the issue.
Whitehurst said he likes the footballs a little softer and started manipulating footballs when he was in college at Clemson.
“I’ve messed with it,” Whitehurst said. “I messed with it a little bit before I got to the NFL. You know, I kind like where we are right now and it does make a difference.”
A number of quarterbacks have came out and said that virtually every quarterback has something to do with the way the footballs are on game day, however, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is remaining coy on the issue.
In a press conference, Brady said, “I feel like I have always played within the rules. I would never break the rules.”
Whitehurst says he believes Brady, despite all the others who are accusing him of lying.
“I gotta be careful how I talk, too,” Whitehurtst went on to say. “Tom [Brady] is one of my heroes, and if he says he did have anything to do with it, I believe him.”
While Whitehurst goes on to make it seem like it is commonplace for a quarterback to deflate footballs, he says he has no idea what happen on the Patriots sideline.
“Most of the time, it’s us [the qarterbacks]. We go in there and take the air out because they are more fun to throw. You can tell a difference. But you know, I don’t know…I don’t know what happened up there [in New England.]”
The Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday for Super Bowl XLIX.
