NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason has hired former Philadelphia Eagles assistant Todd Lyght to coach the Commodores’ cornerbacks.
The Commodores announced the move Wednesday with Brett Maxie coaching safeties in his second season.
Lyght spent the past two seasons coaching defensive backs in the NFL with Philadelphia. He also worked for Chip Kelly as an assistant at Oregon in 2011 and 2012. A first-round draft pick in 1991 out of Notre Dame, Lyght played 12 years at cornerback in the NFL. He started coaching in 2009 at Bishop Gorman High in Nevada.
Mason says he’s followed Lyght since his playing career ended and likes his energy, football knowledge and character.
