West Tenn. deputy fired after DUI arrest

Nathan Williamson

COVINGTON, Tenn. (AP) – A west Tennessee sheriff’s deputy has been fired after being arrested for drunken driving and other charges following a crash in his cruiser.

Tipton County Sheriff Pancho Chumley told WMC-TV that he is “disappointed” by the actions of 26-year-old Nathan Williamson, who had his six-year-old son with him on Wednesday when the crash with another vehicle occurred. No one was injured.

Tipton County deputies responded first to the crash, but called in the Tennessee Highway Patrol to conduct an independent investigation.

WMC reports Williamson was charged with driving under the influence, child endangerment, violation of the child restraint law and failure to exercise due care and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

It wasn’t immediately clear Williamson he has an attorney. He is due in court next month.
