MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Memphis woman is gaining national attention after she trashed her wedding dress in paint after her fiance called off the wedding.
Shelby Swink was set to get married Nov. 1.
Once the wedding was called off, Swink, alongside her family, bridesmaids and photographer, decided to trash her wedding gown with colorful paint.
“I was very nervous when we arrived to the shoot. Everyone was oohing and ahhing at me in the dress. It was at first hard realizing there would be no wedding that day,” Swink told ABC News.
Despite being nervous, Swink said she let go of all of her emotions once the paint started flying.
“It was like a light switch,” she said. “I was really surprised by that. I just wouldn’t let myself get down.”
Now, two months later, Swink said the called-off wedding seems like “forever ago,” adding the breakup was for the best.
“I really did dodge a bullet. Not him, but a loveless marriage,” she explained. “Life is too short to be sad or mad. You define your happiness, not your significant other.”
Swink’s paint splattered dress is now on display at The Barefoot Bride, a bridal shop in Memphis.
While the dress is on display, the store is donating a portion of its proceeds to Be Free Revolution.
