NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 54-year-old man died New Year’s Day in a single-car crash in Nashville.
The accident happened on Youngs Lane near Free Silver Road just before 5 a.m.
Richard Otey lost control in a curve, causing his Chrysler minivan to leave the roadway and strike a concrete drainage culvert.
Otey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the van.
His passenger, 34-year-old Stefan Lavender, was not seriously hurt. Metro police stated Lavender was intoxicated and officers were not able to get a coherent statement from him.
They believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing. Further details have yet to be released.
