NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro Councilman At-Large Jerry Maynard has decided not to run for Nashville mayor.

Maynard, who is a pastor, government relations consultant and frequent contributor on News 2’s “This Week with Bob Mueller,” had been considering entering next year’s race.

He cited family obligations regarding his mother, who is battling cancer and lives in Indiana.

Seven people have said they will be in the mayor’s race including at-large Councilwoman Megan Barry, attorney Charles Robert Bone, former Metro school board chairman David Fox, real estate executive Bill Freeman, charter school founder Jeremy Kane, business investor Kenneth Eaton and business executive Linda Rebrovick.

The election is next August when current Nashville Mayor Karl Dean wraps up eight years in office.
