NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Early Sunday morning, Metro police arrested 22-year-old Aaron Dodson for the September murder of Ricky Burgett Jr.
According to arrest affidavits, Dodson was a passenger in a car Saturday night when it was stopped for having a faulty brake light.
Police asked Dodson what his name was and he first lied about his identity before later giving his real name.
Dodson also admitted to police that a marijuana grinder and pipe found in the car were his.
As he was being booked into the Criminal Justice Center in downtown Nashville, officers reported they found Xanax hidden in his sock.
Dodson has been charged with criminal homicide, drug possession without a prescription, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and criminal impersonation. He is being held on $540,000 bond.
According to authorities, Dodson and 19-year-old Oral Patterson entered Burgett’s Welshwood Drive apartment on the afternoon of Sept. 21.
The two men demanded money from Burgett’s roommate and then shot Burgett before fleeing the scene. Burgett later died at Southern Hills Medical Center.
Patterson, already in custody for Burgett’s death, was arrested on Oct. 10 and charged with criminal homicide. His bond was set at $250,000.
