DALLAS, Tx. (WKRN) – A school crossing guard who fell on tough times was surprised by several parents with a new car.
WLS-TV reported that Nathaniel Kendrick, who works for Lakewood Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, was behind on his bills as he struggled to take care of his sick wife.
Kendrick’s car was also repossessed.
A group of fathers found out what happened and stepped in to help.
The dads, who are with the Friends of Lakewood community organization, put their money together and purchased a Mercury sedan for Kendrick.
“What we decided to do was to get in the car, pull it around the corner, and park it in the middle of the crosswalk … nobody does that,” explained Russell McMillan, one of the organizers of the surprise.
At first, Kendrick was confused by what was going on.
“He’s asking us to move the car, and I’m going, ‘Well, it’s your car…why don’t you move it?”
Once Kendrick realized the car was for him, he was overcome with emotion.
