Former paramedic accused of stealing drugs from ambulances

MARSHALL COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A former paramedic in Marshall County is accused of stealing drugs stored on ambulances and replacing them with saline solution.

Scott Smith, 38, was indicted by a Marshall County grand jury Wednesday on one count of theft and one count of official misconduct.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation started investigating Smith on Nov. 19.

They discovered that while working for the Marshall County Emergency Medical Service, Smith took control substances such as Dilaudid, Morphine and Fentanyl from ambulances while he was working.

He then reportedly refilled the packages with saline solution and placed them back into the ambulances.

The alleged thefts took place between Oct. 22 and Nov. 18.

Smith later helped agents find the packages that had been tampered with and were still on the ambulances.

He was fired from the Marshall County EMS in November.

Smith was booked into the Marshall County Jail after his arrest, but has since been released on $7,500 bond.
