CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Clarksville pastor who bought 10,000 yard signs proclaiming Christmas is all about Jesus has given them all away.
Pastor Jimmy Terry of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church purchased the signs in November. He said even the sign-maker couldn’t believe the order.
“He said, ‘How many do you want?’ and I said 10,000. He said ‘Pastor, 10,000?’” recalls Terry. “He said, ‘That’s $30,000!’ and I said, ‘I still want 10,000.’”
But ultimately, the pastor didn’t need just 10,000. He needed over 11,000.
“That 10,000 went just like that,” he said, snapping his fingers.
Pastor Terry’s idea for the signs came from his deep faith and belief that signs can spread a message and reach people for Jesus.
He keeps an “everyday sign” that reads “Trust Jesus” on one side, and “Jesus Only” on the floor board of his car and holds it out of the window when he stops at intersections.
Since a News 2 story ran on Dec. 2, Pastor Terry has been contacted by people from east Tennessee, Atlanta, Georgia, Alabama and Illinois requesting signs.
He’s personally delivered some to Atlanta and Cookeville.
Richard Davis, an associate pastor from One Heart Baptist Church in North Clarksville, picked up a handful of signs Wednesday.
Bill Howard picked up one for his yard and made a donation to help pay for the $30,000 it cost the pastor.
“I just stepped out on my faith,” said Terry. “Even now we’ve only got $13,000 to $14,000 to pay for that. But I’m not worried about that.”
Terry said he ordered another 1,000 signs when it became apparent they would all be gone and started to order more, but decided to start thinking toward the next holiday.
“I’m still dreaming up ways now. What else can I do for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?” he said. “I’m waiting for Easter. I’m waiting for Easter now.”
If you would like to make donations to the Christmas sign campaign, Terry said it can be sent to this address:
