TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has arrested two people, including a juvenile, for the attempted murder of a deputy in Tipton County.
Montavo Terry, 19, and Da’Cavius Fayne, 17, have been charged with attempted second degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and reckless endangerment.
The charges stem from an officer-involved shooting that took place Dec. 13 at Highway 51 and McLaughlin Road in Munford.
According to officials, Tipton County Deputy Demario Avery was in an unmarked car at the intersection when he saw a man fire shots into a car that was stopped in front of him.
That’s when Fayne, an occupant in the car, fired back at the gunman.
When Deputy Avery let the suspects know he was an officer, Fayne reportedly turned the gun on the him.
The deputy fired a shot at Fayne, hitting him in the leg. Authorities said Terry also pointed his gun at the deputy. Avery fired at him, but did not hit him.
Both suspects then took off on foot.
Terry was arrested Sunday and booked in the Tipton County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
Fayne was booked Wednesday and is being held in juvenile detention in Shelby County.
