Police: Man caught stealing from railroad in south Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was arrested Wednesday for burglary after he was seen breaking into train containers in south Nashville.

Police reported Robert Mathers, 26, and a male accomplice were seen by a CSX agent walking down the railroad tracks and looking into various railway cars.

The agent reportedly observed the duo going between two containers, cutting the plastic seals to the doors and going inside.

CSX police attempted to stop the men as they were entering a third container.

Both men ran away and only Mathers was apprehended.

According to an affidavit, Mathers admitted to police that he had broken into railway cars before.

He reportedly took police back to his residence and gave them the previously stolen items, including three boxes of liquor and a man’s dress coat.

Mathers was booked in the Metro jail on charges of trespassing, burglary and theft with a bond of $35,000.
