Judge overseeing commissioner’s gun case recuses himself

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – The judge overseeing Barb Sturgeon’s case after she was indicted on gun charges for allegedly bringing a gun onto school property has recused himself.

Barb Sturgeon was charged with carrying or possessing a gun on school grounds.

In the order of recusal from Judge Michael W. Binkley, he refers the case to another judge for reassignment.

Binkley’s decision comes after he commented on a Facebook story this past Sunday. The story detailed Sturgeon’s indictment.

A portion of Binkley’s comment said, “You will see just one more example of small town politics at its best.”

His comment was later was taken down at an unknown time.

News 2 asked Binkley to clarify his comment but has yet been given an answer.

As for Sturgeon, her court date has been moved to January.
