A woman was arrested Wednesday after falsely reported her car stolen in south Nashville.
According to an affidavit, Jameica Smith, 22, called police to report her car had been stolen by two black males while she was at a car wash on Murfreesboro Pike.
An officer was already at the car wash reviewing video surveillance footage when the call came in that the vehicle had been taken.
There was no evidence that the car was stolen from the business, only footage that the car was driven there by a man to have it detailed.
When officers arrived at Smith’s residence to question her, she reportedly continued to state that the car was stolen from her at the car wash. Smith even signed a statement to police that her vehicle was stolen.
Police then confronted her with the knowledge that they knew the vehicle could not have been stolen from the car wash.
Smith reportedly admitted that she allows her boyfriend to drive the car and he had driven it away after they had gotten into an argument.
She stated that she just wanted her car back and that she thought the police could find it.
Smith was booked in the Metro jail on a charge of filing a false report. Her bond was set at $75,000.
