A man was arrested Thursday for child neglect after he allegedly purchased marijuana with his six-month-old son in the car.
Police observed Michael Timms, 25, as he bought the drugs from an unknown male on Oct. 15 in the parking lot of the Kmart located at 4119 Gallatin Pike South in Madison.
As Timms drove away, police initiated a traffic stop because Timms was going 40 in a 30 mile-per-hour zone and smelled the odor of marijuana inside the vehicle.
According to an affidavit, police found two bags of marijuana inside Timms’ son’s diaper bag.
Timms reportedly denied purchasing drugs with his son in the car but police confronted him with the knowledge that he had been under surveillance during the transaction.
He was booked in the Metro jail on a charge of aggravated child neglect. His bond was set at $25,000.
Timms faces additional charges of possession and driving on a suspended license.
