A toddler who was lost in the woods near her Michigan home for 22 hours was found safe.
According to ABC News, two-year-old Brooklyn Lynn Lilly was grinning from ear to ear when an officer spotted her Thursday.
She was playing outside when she wandered away from her house and into the woods nearby. Her family and neighbors quickly started searching for Brooklyn, fearing the worst.
“We worried maybe somebody came and grabbed her,” said Patrick McDonald, a family friend.
State troopers, deputies and firefighters also came to the scene. They searched the area with ATVs, by air and on foot.
Storms rolled through, making the search effort even more difficult.
Brooklyn was eventually found safe, thanks to Trooper Denis McGuckin and his K-9, Jax. The toddler was nearly a mile away from her home.
“She had lifted her head up off the ground and looked back towards me and my dog and began smiling,” McGuckin said.
Assistant Fire Chief for the Tawas City Fire Department Jeffery Seyfried later snapped a picture of Brooklyn smiling.
“I asked her, I said ‘Brooklyn, can I take your picture?’ She looked up and gave me this great big smile and I said, ‘Thank you,’ and she says, ‘I love the woods.’”
