DECORAH, Iowa (AP) – Iowa authorities say three college students have rescued a 10-point buck from a 10-foot sinkhole.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the animal was rescued last week from a Winneshiek County farm near Decorah.
The three high school friends were home from college when a tractor ran into the sinkhole and discovered the deer. They estimate the hole is about 4 feet wide and 10 feet deep.
They fastened a rope to the buck’s antlers and pulled it out of the hole. The men say the animal appeared to be uninjured and ran off after it was rescued.
The farm owner tells KWWL-TV he hopes the deer will return the kindness by leaving his corn and beans alone.
