A Pennsylvania couple who created a bucket list for their unborn son gave birth to Shane Michael Haley in a Philadelphia area hospital early Thursday morning.
Shane was diagnosed in utero with anencephaly, a neural defect that kills most infants shortly after birth.
In an effort to make the most of their time with him, Dan and Jenna Haley created a bucket list and used Facebook with a special page called Prayers for Shane to document their journey visiting places across the country before he was born.
The list included things they loved to do as a couple such as going to a Phillies game, visiting New York City, beaches in New Jersey and Delaware, and the Philadelphia Zoo.
Little Shane was welcomed into the world at 2:45 a.m. At 6:15 a.m., just three-and-a-half hours after he was born, he passed away.
The family wrote on Facebook, “Today at 6:15AM, after meeting his entire family and being baptized into the Catholic faith, baby Shane died peacefully in his Mother’s arms… we are so grateful for the time that we were blessed to hold and hug our son… the support and prayers we have received from all of you have been amazing and we want to thank each of you with all our hearts… Shane spent his entire life in the arms of people that loved him unconditionally and I don’t think you could ask for a more beautiful life [than] that… he is home now with the Lord and will forever be our little miracle!”
