A man was arrested Sept. 28 for aggravated assault when he allegedly hit a man with his car that was trying to stop him from shoplifting alcohol.
Police reported Paul Grigsby, 49, exited Frugal MacDoogal at 701 Division Street without paying for two bottles of Crown Royal.
After leaving the store with the bottles, valued at $100 total, Grigsby was reportedly confronted in the parking lot by two female employees who told him to return the stolen merchandise.
According to an affidavit, Grigsby began to struggle with the women, which led to a male associate of the store coming outside to respond to the women’s cries for help.
Grigsby then allegedly hit the male victim with his car as the man tried to stop Grigsby from leaving the parking lot.
Metro police said Grigsby drove nearly 50 yards with the man hanging onto the hood of his car, taking a sharp turn to shake him off and get away.
The victim sustained a concussion, short term memory loss, several abrasions and a large bump on his head.
Grigsby remains in the Metro jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a bond of $77,000.
