Newly elected Williamson County School Board chairman Mark Gregory has stepped down from his position.
Carol Birdsong with Williamson County Schools told News 2 Gregory notified fellow board members of his decision late Thursday afternoon.
Birdsong added Gregory will continue to be on the school board.
Parents began an online petition in recent weeks after it was discovered that Gregory had a role in creating a product called the “ButtleOpener,” a life-sized female rear-end that is used to open bottles.
Gregory previously told News 2 he has not co-owned or promoted the product since December 2012.
Just last week Gregory said he had no plans to step down from his position.
It is unclear if his decision has anything to do with the recent outcry against his position.
Gregory has served on the school board since 2004.
Additional information was not released.
