Belmont University sent a security alert to students and parents Wednesday night after a female student reported she was followed by a suspicious man.
The alert was sent at 11:30 p.m. and warned the student was walking down Ashwood Avenue from 12th Avenue South toward Belmont Boulevard when the incident began.
Campus police said she noticed a car following her so she began walking faster. The car sped up as well, ultimately pulling ahead of her and stopping.
A male got out of the passenger’s side of the car and began chasing her. Belmont security said the woman got to Belmont Boulevard, turned around and didn’t see the man any longer.
It happened right next to the Belmont Commons, several buildings that house students on campus.
Students told News 2 the incident makes them uneasy.
“It makes me scared, as a girl, because I have night classes here. And it kind of concerns me walking to and from my car, especially in the parking garages,” explained Pilar Ferrer.
Belmont campus police is working with Metro Nashville to identify and locate a suspect.
He is described as a white male around 6 feet tall weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing a collared shirt and driving a dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Belmont security at 615-460-6617 or Metro police at 615-862-8600.
