A 23-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 in La Vergne Monday evening.
The crash happened between the Old Hickory Boulevard and Waldron Road exits in westbound lanes at 4:20 p.m.
According to authorities, Dimitra Byrd’s 1994 Toyota Camry was for an unknown reason stopped in the third lane of the road.
A second vehicle, a freightliner, was unable to avoid striking the Camry from behind. A motorcyclist was also involved in the crash after the 25-year-old driver swerved to avoid hitting debris from the crash.
The motorcyclist, identified as Benjamin Menes, was tossed from the 2006 Harley Davidson.
Menes and a passenger were both injured. The driver of the freightliner was not injured.
Westbound lanes were shut down between Waldron Road and Old Hickory Boulevard until 9:30 p.m. Traffic was backed up for several miles.
Traffic in eastbound lanes was severely slowed for several hours due to rubbernecking delays.
