Oklahoma a trip of many ‘firsts’ for Volunteers

The Tennessee Volunteers are off to a 2-0 start thanks to impressive wins in front of their home crowd. Now, they head to Oklahoma for their first road trip of the season.

For a young team like Tennessee whose roster includes more than 30 freshman, the first road trip of the season is a challenge in itself. This trip, however, is full of “firsts” for some Volunteers.

“I think a third of our football team will be flying for the first time, ever,” says head coach Butch Jones.

Once they arrive in Norman, the Volunteers will face the fourth ranked team in the country. Jones, however, says weather they are playing the Sooners or someone else, the game itself doesn’t change.

“The game is still going to be played on the green grass, between the white lines. It comes down to fundamentals, it comes down to execution, it comes down to toughness, it is a great challenge. It is being able to block out the clutter and distractions that road games bring about.”

The Volunteers kickoff against Oklahoma on Saturday at 7:00 p.m CT.
