Two men were rescued Saturday morning after their small boat capsized and sank in the Cumberland River.

According to ClarksvilleNow.com, witnesses saw the Jon boat starting to sink around 10 a.m. near McGregor Park in Clarksville.

Rescue crews were able to pull the two men on board to safety. They were not injured.

Officials believe the boat sank because it was carrying too heavy of a load.

The incident occurred shortly before the Riverfest Regatta, a competition where teams build boats from plastic and cardboard and attempt to race to the finish line without sinking.
