A Shelbyville woman is raising money to help with brain surgery for her child.
Nicki Rhodes says her 17-month-old little girl, Brynley, has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, meaning the back of her brain is crowded and pushing down onto the brain stem.
Brynley’s symptoms include choking, eye-crossing, and problems walking.
She’s being taken to Michigan to visit a neurosurgeon next week and could go under the knife by Wednesday.
The surgery gives Brynley a good chance of getting better.
The girl’s mother has set up a GoFundMe account, with a goal of raising $5,000 to help with medical and travel expenses.
Social media has already helped get the word out for the family.
“If it hadn’t been for the support and prayers and the people that have stood by us, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Nicki Rhodes said.
The family is also hosting a fundraising event on Saturday in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.
