Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt started his Wednesday afternoon press conference by announcing the 2014 team captains. The five captains were selected by their teammates. They include Jake Locker, Nate Washington, Wesley Woodyard, Jurrell Casey and George Wilson.

Whisenhunt said a sixth captain will be a rotating selection.

Washington said the honor trumps all other possible milestones.

“I could have as many 1,000-yard seasons as I could possibly have, however many touchdowns as I could possibly have, but to be voted team captain, that means the guys in this locker room respect the work that you put in.”

For defensive end Jurrell Casey, the announcement comes one week after signing a four-year, $36 million extension.

Which is better?

“Both of them are pretty lovely,” Casey said with a smile. “Especially in one week. You get the new deal, then the honor of being a captain. I think the biggest thing though is my team voting me captain shows that they respect me as a leader out on the field, not just another player.”
