The Melrose entertainment district has officially sold out of retail space.

The mixed-use development off of Eight Avenue is gearing up to open their doors to its latest venue, the Sutler Saloon.

Joe Parkes and his partner Austin Ray opened the spot just a few doors down from where its namesake, a Nashville honky-tonk, opened in 1976. The partners came up with a re-imagined concept of the original venue.

“The room sounds very rich and nice. It’s pretty exciting to bring that to Nashville and have a great place where people can have a fantastic meal and great music,” Parkes told Nashville’s News 2.

The Melrose strip sat vacant for about seven years, once a movie theater and bowling alley.

“They were trying to build a strip center and tear the building down and everything,” Parkes explained.

The Parkes Companies saved the space first by developing Melrose Living. Sixty percent of the 220 apartments have been leased since opening in March and another 30 residents are moving in this weekend.

“Part of what we tried to do is find business establishments that our residents would love,” Parkes explained.

They started with a hair salon, then Sinema, a restaurant and bar, and next week they will welcome the Sutler.

They are painting the finishing touches on the stage in the venue that will offer a full dining menu as well as a craft beer and cocktails.

Downstairs, the space includes a speakeasy-inspired cocktail lounge known as “the cellar.”

The venue will officially open to the public next week.

There are also plans for a diner venture to open in the Melrose development by the end of the year.
